Annual Report 2008-2009

Miller School of Medicine, Jackson Health System International Divisions Sponsor Fetal Therapy Conference

The University of Miami Miller School of Medicine’s International Division and Jackson Health System’s International Division are sponsors of the VIII Annual Meeting of the Iberoamerican Society for Prenatal Diagnosis and Treatment (Sociedad Iberoamericana de Diagnostico y Tratamiento Prenatal – SIADTP), to be held December 6-8, 2009 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Miami, FL.

Led by Rubén Quintero, M.D., professor of obstetrics and gynecology and director of the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, SIADTP is a non-profit organization whose objective is to promote education and research in the field of prenatal diagnosis and therapy in the Americas, Portugal, Spain, and Italy. The meeting will include courses in fetal echocardiography and nuerosonography, first trimester screening, and oral and poster presentations that reflect the latest advances in the field.

World-renowned Fetal Surgeon Joins University of Miami/Jackson
World-renowned fetal surgeon Rubén A. Quintero, M.D., will join the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and Women’s Hospital Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital on March 1 as director of the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine and professor of obstetrics and gynecology.  At the University of Miami/Jackson, Dr. Quintero will launch a unique fetal therapy program. Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility Offers Fertility Preservation Counseling to Cancer Patients
Specialists at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Miami are now offering fertility counseling for male and female cancer patients. This counseling will help patients explore their options and make decisions regarding fertility preservation before they undergo treatments such as chemotherapy or radiation which can kill gametes.
